The University’s remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks began in the shadowy light of pre-dawn and ended in a glow of candlelight. The first event of the day was a mural painting at U-M-Flint that started in the early morning hours, and the last was a reverent candlelight vigil at the Diag where U-M President Mary Sue Coleman spoke of healing and hope. Other events included moments of silence, a public health forum, the dedication of a plaque honoring the 18 alumni who died in the attacks, the Josh Rosenthal Lecture in honor of one of the alumni, a symposium about terrorism and globalization, and a concert featuring the “Star-Spangled Banner” and Mozart’s “Lacrymosa” from Requiem.
