John Shen, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at U-M-Dearborn, received a five-year, $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under a program that supports young scholars. Shen was awarded the grant from NSF’s Faculty Early
Career Development Program. He is the first U-M-Dearborn faculty member to receive the prize, presented annually to about 300 junior faculty members nationwide. According to NSF, the program recognizes and supports the early career-development activities of those teacher-scholars who are most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century. Shen plans to use the grant to study super junction power semiconductor devices.
