Regent Andrea Fischer Newman honors Dr. Lazar Greenfield for his service as interim executive vice president for medical affairs (EVPMA) for the U-M Health System, a position he has held for the past year. “In a time of great turmoil in the health care industry, Dr. Greenfield maintained the fiscal vitality of the Health System by directing it through simultaneous cost containment efforts and expansion in capacity, and by shepherding development of major capital projects,” Fischer Newman read from a resolution in his honor. She says Greenfield is to be given credit for moving forward with the Cardiovascular Center, the Depression Center and the Biomedical Science Research Building, all new construction projects in various stages of development. The resolution also noted his role in preparing the campus for new federal privacy regulations and for meeting emerging public health concerns, including SARS and the West Nile Virus. Greenfield will step down from the interim role when new EVPMA Dr. Robert Kelch arrives in September. (Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services)
