College of Engineering (CoE) Dean Stephen Director cuts a birthday cake (top), while students Sean Mathis and Ken Allen play ping-pong (bottom), and student James Olander gets a new perspective of the world on the Velcro wall. The cake was part of the college’s sesquicentennial Sept. 9 at the North Campus Day Festival. The other events, including an info fair that was new this year, were organized by the Pierpont Commons Office of Arts and Programs. A series of lectures and events will highlight a year of CoE activities under the theme “Celebrating 150 Years of Engineering Excellence.” The lecture series kicked off with Edward Comstock, principal assistant, chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Navy. His talk took place Sept. 11. The CoE celebration also will feature special Homecoming activities.
