Happy Chinese New Year

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes

The Chinese New Year was off to a roaring start Jan. 22 with a performance of the traditional lion dance at the student lounge in the Business School’s Davidson Hall. The dance involves a hungry lion searching for food, typically lettuce or other greens, which he seeks out with the help of a playful monk. Jeff Westbrooks (head) and Tim Fisher (tail) of the Asian Martial Arts Studio of Ann Arbor perform the dance. During the performance they tossed greens—a symbol of wealth and good fortune—at the audience three times, with some pieces landing on students’ coats and laptops. The Asian Business Conference organizing committee and the Greater China Association brought the performers to campus. (Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services)
