Coleman to address University; University Senate meeting to follow

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes

President Mary Sue Coleman will deliver a University-wide address at 3:15 p.m. today (Sept. 20) in Rackham Auditorium.

Coleman will outline priorities, initiatives and challenges for the University. A reception will follow in the Rackham lobby.

After the reception, the University Senate will hold its first meeting of the academic year. Senate Assembly chair Stanley Berent encourages all Senate members to attend the meeting, which will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Senate secretary John Lehman, professor of biology, will give a presentation on faculty evaluation of administrators. Last March, the Senate resolved to adopt a system of periodic evaluation by the faculty of administrative officers, including the president, provost, deans and department chairs.

Following the presentation, Berent will lead a discussion with Senate members.

Senate membership consists of all members of the professorial staff, the executive officers of the University, the deans of the schools and colleges, certain members of the research and library staff, and other major officers.

Research personnel who hold primary research rank (assistant, associate or full research scientist) and have a full-time appointment as a regular staff member also are members of the Senate.
