Awards
The Sierra Club has honored two School of Natural Resources and Environment professors with inaugural awards in their names. Burton Barnes is the first recipient of the Burton V. Barnes Award for Outstanding Academic Contributions in Support of Michigan’s Environment. Bunyan Bryant, who also is professor of urban planning, was given the first Bunyan Bryant Award in Recognition of Outstanding Leadership on Environmental Justice. Each year the club confers awards on individuals who have contributed to the protection of the environment.
Appointment
Dr. Steven Pipe, assistant professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, is president-elect of the Midwest Society for Pediatric Research (MWSPR). In his role that will begin in 2006, Pipe will be responsible for organizing the 2006 annual meeting held in conjunction with various organizations, including the Central Society for Clinical Research, Midwest Section of the American Federation for Medical Research, Society for General Internal Medicine, and Society for Investigative Dermatology. MWSPR provides a forum for pediatric scientists, developmental biologists, and junior faculty and trainees at various levels to present their work.
