U-M/OSU game reminder: Open container laws different in Ohio

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes

The Division of Student Affairs is reminding people who plan to attend the U-M/Ohio State University football game in Columbus Nov. 20 that Ohio laws regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public are slightly different than Michigan laws.

Open containers of alcohol are not permitted in any public spaces where individuals can enter freely, including sidewalks, streets, lawns, certain outdoor areas of apartment complexes, and in parked or moving vehicles. Punishment can mean up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
