Responding to Nature conference scheduled

John Elder, a leading ecocritic, will deliver a keynote address at 9 a.m. April 7 in Room 3222 of Angell Hall to open a two-day conference that will honor the work of English professor John Knott, and to celebrate his dynamic engagement with ecology, ecocriticism and nature writing.

During the course of the conference, David Baker will read from his poetry, and Janisse Ray and Joy Williams from their non-fiction. Eminent photographer Emmet Gowin will present and discuss his work at the Museum of Art. Two panels of literary scholars also will address recent and promising directions in the field. Robert Grese will lead a tour of the Arboretum, including the restored prairie in Dow Field.

International Supernova Cosmology project leader to speak

Saul Perlmutter, professor of physics, University of California, Berkeley, and astrophysicist, Supernova Cosmology project leader, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will give the sixth annual Ford Motor Company Distinguished Lecture in Physics, “Supernovae, Dark Energy, and the Accelerating Universe—What Next?” at 4:15 p.m. March 29 in the auditorium of 1324 East Hall.

School of Information graduate students will present their annual expoSItion, a showcase of projects completed in courses or while they were working in the field, in an exhibition from noon-2 p.m. today (March 27) in the Vandenberg Room of the Michigan League.
