Estimated reading time: 1 minutes
In 1908 civic and University leaders, students and community members gathered for the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone of Alumni Memorial Hall, to honor the sacrifices of University men in three conflicts: The Mexican War of 1847, Civil War, and Spanish-American War (1898). More than 1,500 alumni contributed. Building use evolved to include the display of University art collections, and The Museum of Art (UMMA) became the sole building tenant in the 1960s. A restoration and expansion project is being initiated this summer, with completion scheduled for late 2008. The UMMA Off/Site at 1301 S. University will open June 25.
