Symposium will provide research-based insight into student life
Trends in student behaviors, expectations and concerns highlight the third annual U-M Division of Student Affairs Research symposium. Presented by the Division of Student Affairs Research Roundtable, “Deconstructing Theory to Practice” is an interactive event to be held June 8 beginning at 8 a.m. in the Kuenzel Room of the Michigan Union.
The keynote speaker for the symposium is Deborah Faye Carter, associate professor of education, and the incoming chair of the University”s nationally recognized Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education.
Three sessions featuring U-M staff and administrators discussing different aspects of student life will follow the keynote.
The symposium is an opportunity for Student Affairs to share the extensive knowledge from their interaction with students. Findings from original research, including an annual survey of incoming freshman, and a recent first-time survey on student mental health issues—plus comparison studies using existing national survey data, combined with extensive day-to-day contact with students, are among the resources symposium presenters will draw from.
The event is free and open to all students, faculty and staff; however, the organizers ask that anyone planning to attend RSVP on-line at StudentAffairsResearch@umich.edu.
Details, including schedule and participants, are available on-line at http://www.umich.edu/~rsa/symposium.html.
