Aug. 15 symposium to address growing IT security issues

IT professionals are busier than ever as they face mounting threats from hackers, phishers and others intent on the destruction of data or technology systems.

Universities and other institutes of higher learning are the targets of more than half of the reported attacks and security threats nationwide.

Because of this trend IT Security Services (ITSS) is presenting the second security symposium for U-M IT professionals, SUMIT_06 (Security for U-M IT). Registration is required for the 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m event Aug. 15 at Rackham Auditorium.

SUMIT_06 will bring IT experts from around the United States to Ann Arbor to address current security issues. IT professionals from all three campuses, MERIT Network members and the general public are welcome to attend. Experts will provide information, advice, and tips on how to safeguard IT systems.

Class subjects include The Changing Threat Landscape, State of Network Security and Changing Nature of Threats, Security Development Life Cycle, Lockpicking, and Botnet Case Study: United States vs. Christopher Maxwell.
