Photios Ioannou, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been recognized with the 2009 Peurifoy Construction Research Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers. It was presented for research and development contributions that have advanced and defined the state of the art in construction engineering and management technologies, principles, and practices.
Mark Tessler, the Samuel J. Eldersveld Collegiate Professor, Department of Political Science, director of the International Institute and vice-provost for International Affairs, has been selected to receive the Arab Democracy Barometer Award. It was established in 2005 by the Institute for Social Research in collaboration with institutions and scholars in the Arab world and through consultation with democracy barometer projects worldwide. Its objectives include contributing to political reform and strengthening institutional capacity for public opinion research.
