U-M researchers selected to author, edit climate report
Four U-M researchers have been selected as authors or review editors for the next climate assessment report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPCC, established by the United Nations and the World Meteorological Organization, shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for a series of authoritative climate-change reports over the past two decades.
The U-M authors and editors include three from the School of Natural Resources and Environment. Dean Rosina Bierbaum will serve as a review editor of a chapter on global climate adaptation decision-making. Professor and Associate Dean for Research Arun Agrawal has been named a lead author of a chapter on climate effects on livelihoods and poverty, and Associate Professor Maria Carmen Lemos will be a lead author of a chapter on climate-change resilience and sustainable development.
Joyce Penner, a professor in the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences, will be a review editor of a chapter on clouds and aerosols.
The 831 authors and reviewers of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report were selected from about 3,000 nominees worldwide. The report is expected to be published by 2014.
