The university has adopted a new Standard Practice Guide, SPG 510.02: Physical Security Technologies, to govern the placement, use, maintenance, replacement, and removal of physical security technologies across campus.

The policy is owned by the President’s Office, the Division of Public Safety and Security, Information Technology Services, and the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

It establishes the university’s approach to and governance of Physical Security Technologies across all university facilities, and replaces SPG 606.01: Proper Use of Security Cameras.

The new SPG underscores U-M’s commitment to privacy, transparency, and responsible technology use. Moreover, all new technologies will also comply with federal and state laws.
