Members of the Compulsive Lyres, a U-M a cappella vocal ensemble, share their talents with the Board of Regents Sept. 19. Before the group broke into their harmonious rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” students were honored for winning the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella choirs in New York last April. It was the first time a U-M group had won the national title in a cappella music. Regent Olivia Maynard read a resolution praising the group’s accomplishment.
In addition to the choral group, Regent S. Martin Taylor read a resolution recognizing the Michigan Academic Competition Team for winning three national titles. The students were the 2002 College Bowl national champs for the thir year in a row and the fifth time in seven years, Taylor noted. (Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services)
