Workers install the sculpture “Kindred, 2001” in the plaza of the School of Social Work Building. The sculpture by U-M alumnus Bill Barrett, was commissioned by the School of Social Work and was made possible through the generosity of the artist and the estate of Clinton E. An Dorothy Purdy, which endowed a fund at the School of Social Work for the building, classrooms and furnishings, including artwork. Barrett says his work communicates his internal feelings, reath than commeninting on social issues, because, he says, “art is communication between people.”.
