President’s Residence modeled by 3-D printer

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes
Peter Beier, director of the Media Union 3D Lab, presents President Mary Sue Coleman with a three-dimensional model of the President’s Residence. The model, printed on the lab’s new 3D printer, is made of plaster and took five hours, 30 minutes to print. The MU3D Lab obtained a digital model of the house, circa 1900, from the Millenium Project that served as a 3D blueprint for the construction of the printed model. The model is a gift from Beier and the MU3D Lab staff commemorating Coleman’s inauguration. (Photo by Marcia Ledford, U-M Photo Services)
