A memo from Henry Baier, associate vice president for facilities and operations, says that reducing electrical usage by as little as 3 percent could save the University more than $1 million. A flier reminding people to “turn off the juice” was sent to deans, directors and department heads earlier this month. It says energy conservation is always important, never more so than during this time of tight budgets. “How can you help? By turning off lights, computers, TVs, radios, copiers, printers, coffeemakers, and other electrical appliances when they’re not in use,” the flier says. “You’ll be saving money and conserving valuable resources at the same time.” The flier is part of a campaign by the Utility Reduction Committee, which includes several campus departments.
