Sometime on the morning of Aug. 16, a Michigan Radio announcer will open the mic for the first time at 535 W. William St., audibly starting a new era for the University’s public radio station. WUOM chief engineer Bob Skon, above, is responsible for bringing the station to the airwaves at its new location in the Argus Building, erected in 1866 as a furniture factory and later occupied by the Argus Camera Company. Like other U-M units, Michigan Radio is being displaced from its existing offices and studios as the LSA Building undergoes significant renovation. Most of the LSA Building is vacant with the lone remaining tenants, including the the Cashier’s Office and Photo Services, expected to move to their temporary locations in late summer or early fall. The departments of anthropology (West Hall) and sociology (University Towers), the LSA Dean’s Office (Haven Hall) and the LSA dean’s staff (Dana Building) moved earlier in the summer. The Registrar’s Office moved to 413 E. Huron Aug. 4. (Photo by Marcia Ledford, U-M Photo Services)
