Clover Bailey is blinded by the light as her freshman daughter, Virginia, guides her into South Quad during student move-in Aug. 27. The Chelsea family enjoyed themselves, even amid the chaos; earlier, Virginia pulled her mother down the sidewalk on a rolling cart. In all, 9,300 students moved into 15 residence halls. Move-in went smoothly, thanks to the work of hundreds of University Housing staff members and cooperation from other campus units and the city of Ann Arbor, says Alan Levy, director of public affairs for University Housing.
