New faculty orientation

New faculty members react to a performance by the CRLT Players, a theater troupe from the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. The sketch addressed the chilly climate often experienced by female students in science, math and engineering classrooms. Lunch followed the presentation and featured comments from President Mary Sue Coleman and Provost Paul N. Courant. “You need to remember that the most important teaching you do is the example you set for others, the teaching you do when you don’t even know that you are teaching,” Coleman said. “You will find some great role models here. And I am convinced that you also will become great role models.” Courant encouraged the audience to “do what you’ve always done.” He said, “Find fascinating projects and work on them. We will support you.” (Photo by Marcia Ledford, U-M Photo Services)
