Science and art come together at the Arb

Estimated reading time: 1 minutes
New scientific illustrations will be posted outdoors in Nichols Arboretum’s Oak Openings Garden, providing visitors with information about plant and animal life, the natural and cultural history along the Huron River, prescribed burns at the Arb, and more. Shown here, sorting through the signs, are Catriona Mortell, administrative assistant at the Arb; Patricia Ferrer, adjunct assistant professor in the School of Art & Design, whose students created the artwork; and Wendy Caldwell, a senior studying scientific illustration. Students, volunteers and staff provided the text. The new signs will be posted outside beginning this spring. (Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services)
