More than 12 tons of materials, including 500 bags of clothing, were donated to local charities during this year’s residence hall move-out. More than two tons of non-perishable food, along with toiletries, was given to Food Gatherers. Purple Heart received five tons of clothing, one ton of shoes, one ton of blankets and pillows, and pounds of towels. U-M’s Grounds and Waste Management Recycling Program staff worked with housing facilities personnel to collect and sort the discarded items, which were picked up last week by several nonprofit agencies.
