Matthew Nehs, a third-year medical student, works with Dr. Kathleen Hanlon-Lundberg, clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the Perinatal Assessment Center. Hanlon-Lundberg is instructing Nehs on performing an ultrasound by using a fetal simulator. The simulator is part of the U-M Health System’s Clinical Simulation Center, where faculty provide risk-free, hands-on educational programs for students and health care providers in a variety of specialties. Some of the other stations at the Simulation Center are the SimMAN, a life-size, intubatable mannequin; a birthing simulator named Noelle; and several computer-simulated surgery stations.
