Energy Fest showcases innovation, efficiency
The 11th Annual U-M Energy Fest 2006 Sept. 12 and 14 will showcase the University’s efforts and commitment to energy conservation, efficiency and alternative technologies.
University staff and other affiliated organizations will be available 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 12 on the Diag with information and displays that identify opportunities to conserve energy and contribute to a sustainable society. The group Covert Operations will provide music from noon-1 p.m. The free event is open to the public.
The festival continues on the North Campus Portico Plaza at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 14.
“In keeping with the tradition of this event, we’ll have giveaways, fun quizzes and prizes,” says Stephen Kunselman, festival coordinator and energy management liaison in the Plant Operations Department. “We want to keep spreading the word and increasing interest among our students, faculty and staff about ways each person can help reduce energy use.”
A lecture by Jennifer Sprout of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities follows at 2:30 p.m. at the Lurie Engineering Center.
The festival is sponsored by the School of Natural Resources & Environment Center for Sustainable Systems and Plant Operations. For more information, visit www.energymanagement.umich.edu/utilities/energy_management/energy_fest/.
