Actress Drew Barrymore speaks to more than 400 students at the Natural Science Auditorium after a preview of her directorial debut, “Whip It,” which was filmed partly in Ann Arbor and Detroit. Barrymore answered questions Thursday about the film industry, how she chose music for her movie and lessons from her career. She also said state tax incentives for film productions may make “Michigan the Hollywood of the Midwest.” Aldo Hernandez, 17, a freshman from Detroit, waited in line an hour and 45 minutes and got permission from a professor to miss class so he could see Barrymore. “I like meeting celebrities,” he said. “Plus the movie looks good.” (Photo by Scott Galvin, U-M Photo Services)
