This winter term, the university is once again participating in RecycleMania.

The 10-week competition among almost 500 U.S. colleges and universities is designed to see which schools can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita and have the highest recycling rates.

This year’s competition runs through March 27.

The U-M Recycling Program is promoting the event through ads across campus, a “Where’s Rufus Recycling” contest and the Recycling Champions competition, which pits campus building staffs against each other to see who are recycling, reducing waste and improving their recycling rate the most.

Faculty, students and staff are encouraged to avoid using disposable cups at least during the competition, to limit printing e-mails and agendas to things that they truly need hardcopies of and to use a recycling bin instead of trash bin when possible.
