The Candace J. Johnson Award for Staff Excellence is now accepting nominations for staff members who demonstrate a commitment to excellence, generosity, and compassion. These key traits help create a supportive and outstanding work environment at the university.

“Staff members are crucial to every part of the university. They play key roles across the academic landscape, public safety, and supporting the health and well-being of patients. From maintenance to catalyzing our research, staff are indispensable and deserve to be recognized as such,” said Provost Laurie McCauley.

“I am pleased that we can honor both their dedication and Candy Johnson’s legacy with this award.”

All regular staff members from the Ann Arbor campus and Michigan Medicine are eligible. Nominations can be made by colleagues, supervisors, or a combination of both.

The selected staff member will receive a $1,500 prize and a plaque, presented by the Office of the Provost at a personal reception. Nominations are due by Oct. 10.

Johnson, a longtime staff member in the provost’s office, was dedicated to the U-M community and its mission. When she died in 2004, the provost’s office established this award to honor her contributions. Johnson was known for her pursuit of excellence and her ability to inspire and support her colleagues.
