The Board of Regents unanimously approved an amendment to the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities that restores an appeals board within the statement’s appellate process and provides timeframes to govern the appellate process.

As with the previous appeals board, the newly restored appeals board is a recommending body, composed of one student, one faculty member and one administrator, with the role of reviewing hearing outcomes and making recommendations to the Vice President for Student Life.

Once assembled, the appeals board will have seven academic calendar days to review. The appeals board does not make any final decisions.

The SSRR serves as one of the primary policies to hold students accountable for non-academic misconduct. In July 2024, the Board of Regents made updates to the statement outside of the three-year amendment process, including removing the appeals board and other steps within the resolution process to resolve matters swiftly.

The university has a three-year review process that allows for input from students, faculty, and staff. This action to restore the appeals board is a result of the most recent review that concluded last month.
